Aerials

Hey guys!

Last week was pretty stressful because we had our final exams. They generally went smoothly though, and the best part about it was finishing because I got to spend another weekend in New York City! We just went for a few days for my aunt's wedding, and it gave me the opportunity to take lots of new photos. Since I mostly took pictures of buildings and cityscape which I have already done, I decided to focus on photos taken from airplanes this week.

Most of these are aerial shots taken from airplane windows, but some are also on the ground. The first one was taken on this trip, and inspired me to choose this week's theme. I glanced out my window as the sun was setting, and saw a rainbow in the clouds- and I had to take a picture. The rest are some of my favorites from various trips over the past few years.

The hardest thing about aerial shots from planes is trying to work with the lighting. Sometimes the window has a glare, or the sun reflecting off of the clouds overexposes the photograph. I also find myself discovering ways to include the plane itself in the photo, since most of the time there is no way to shoot around the wing.

I hope you all enjoy the photos for this week. All of them are taken with an iPhone 7, and unedited this time. Have a great week, and I'll see you later!

Astrophotography

Hello, I hope everyone had a great holiday season. I recently got a telescope for Christmas, and got in to observing the night sky. I found that if I stuck my phone's camera lens up to the eyepiece of the telescope, I could take photos of what I was seeing. This was very difficult to do, as there is a narrow window for which the light can reach the camera lens without being distorted or cut off. I had to hold the phone in a precise position with a steady hand to take clear photos. The highest quality photos were of the moon, because of its size and brightness. I also attempted to take photos of star clusters, which are not as impressive, but still interesting. I took these photos over a series of weeks, which is why the moon appears in its different phases, from a waxing crescent, to a gibbous, to a full moon. I have adjusted the exposure for some of them, reducing the brightness of the moon and increasing the brightness of the star clusters. Thanks for reading, and enjoy t...

Sunsets

Hey guys! Sorry I missed last week- I have been busy with school lately. On the bright side, it has allowed me to take plenty of photos for my next theme- sunsets! These photos were all taken in Bermuda around dusk. I found it interesting how different places in Bermuda allowed me to frame my photos differently- some have water, some have trees, some have buildings... etc. The first few photos were taken at the Loren hotel at Pink Beach, the next two from my house, one from a friend's house, and the final one from the 1609 restaurant. The sky was also a dynamic element in my photos, and is what made each sunset unique. Taking photos of sunsets gave me practice in landscape photography, which is probably my favorite and most-used way of taking pictures. It also allowed me to experiment with lighting features on my iPhone so that the photos would not be under or over exposed. Without further ado, here's this week's batch of photos, all taken on an iPhone 7 and unedite...

Culture and Lifestyle

Hey guys! My idea for this week's theme was inspired by a recent photo competition for students that I entered. The competition involved three themes, and one of them was "Bermuda Life" which is mostly the culture and lifestyle of Bermuda. I have done minimal photography with people, and none on this blog so far, so I thought I could challenge myself with this theme. The photos I have here relate to experiences I have had that relate to Bermudian culture and people. I took most of them spontaneously and in the moment, and tried to capture what living in Bermuda is like. These photos were taken all around Bermuda such as Horseshoe Bay, the PGA Championship at Port Royal Golf Course, and at raft-ups. I found it more difficult than landscape photography I had done in the past, as I had to focus on capturing people who are constantly moving as opposed to just the natural environment. As always, all were taken with my iPhone 7. Enjoy! ~Bobby
